Denis Wick Tuba Mouthpiece in Silverplate The range of Denis Wick Tuba mouthpieces covers every aspect of tuba playing from the solo work, the brass quintet, the brass band band and the symphony orchestra. They all offer different compromises in richness of sound. They are used by the best symphonic professionals and village bandsmen alike. It is true to say that these mouthpieces have been largely responsible for the tremendous improvement in amateur tuba playing over the past 30 years in the UK, but Denis Wick tuba mouthpieces have enjoyed success all over the world. 1L 32.50mm open
A very large Helleberg-type mouthpiece for enormous volume and full low register. Lovely response, but needs strong chops. Great for the serious orchestral player and BB flat bass player. Huge mouthpiece with a huge sound. This is the mouthpiece that I always use in my 1929 York BB flat sousaphone for Dixieland gigs, and in my 1960 Holton BB flat. Schilke Helleberg II, Laskey 30H, G & W Alan Baer model MVII, Perantucci PT-88 2L 32.00mm open A deep mouthpiece, slightly more funnel-shaped and smaller than the 1L, gives a rich tone and great flexibility, like a huge French Horn.Originally based on an old E-Z Tone model. In the high register it really sings, without thetendency to flatness and ‘hootiness' that you getfrom some more cup-shaped mouthpieces. Recommended for the E flat tuba and 4/4 CCs.Quite a sharp inner edge to the rim, giving a good grip and great stability and security in the high register. This is the mouthpiece I used for many soundtracks including Star Wars, Alien, and The Pink Panther Strikes Again. The legendary EZ Tone, VB 18 2.5CC 32.00mm V-type Designed for the Besson 5/4 CC tuba this is a medium-large Helleberg-type. Great intonation on CC tubas thanks to the careful attention to the design of the backbore. Gives an excellent response and a lovely even sound in all registers. It works very well in 5/4 and 6/4 CC tubas, where it gives focus to the tone. I used this in my Nirschl 6/4 York-model CC, and would recommend this over larger mouthpieces for the very big tubas because it gives a centre to the sound. Conn Helleberg 7B (the ‘Lucky Guy'), Arnold Jacobs-type Helleberg, Schilke 66/67 3L 31.25mm Large barrel Our most popular orchestral model, this has a rounded cup, huge throat and backbore and makes a rich organ-like sound. It seems to suffer fewer intonation problems than the VB 24AW, although strong chops are needed to maintain the pitch in very top register, as the throat is so huge. Massive low register - this transforms the sound of E flat tubas into a really full-toned orchestral instrument. Also a great band mouthpiece, as it makes a very ‘blending' luxuriant sound. Excellent feeling of security with a well-defined inner edge to the rim. VB24 2SL 32.00mm open This is a cup-shaped mouthpiece with a smallishthroat, based on the Miraphone C4, but (crucially) with the backbore opened up (Miraphone C4, Laskey 30C, Perantucci PT-64) massively. This gives an enormously punchy lowregister and a very lively response in other registers. It is the ultimate cimbasso mouthpiece, and gives a huge amount of volume, but with great crispness, on German-style F tubas. I use this on my Rudi Meinl F cimbasso for opera work and used it for soundtrack recordings such as Gladiator, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and Tomorrow Never Dies. 3SL 31.25mm small Originally developed with Pat Sheridan for the Besson 983 front valve-action E flat tuba this is a great solo/quintet mouthpiece with an immediate response and brilliant tone. Great in the F tuba also. Perantucci PT-65, Laskey 28C 4L 30.50mm medium This is a scaled-down version of the 3L, making the high register easier to control and is good for players with thinner lips. Josef Klier T6 5L 30.00mm medium A great mouthpiece for beginners, this gives a generous tone with the minimum of effort. This will see you through Tune-a-Day! VB 30E, Josef Klier T7 1 32.50mm open Same as 1L, but with small shank for old European models. Schilke Helleberg II 2 32.00mm open Same as 2L, but with small shank for old European models. E-Z Tone, VB 18 3 31.25mm Large barrel Same as 3L, but with small shank for old European models. VB 24 AW 4 30.50mm medium Same as 4L, but with small shank for old European models. 5 30.00mm medium Same as 5L, but with small shank for old European models. 1XL 32.50mm open Same as 1L, but with a wider, rounder rim givingmore comfort to players who play all day long. Helps give a really warm attack in pianoplaying, but slightly less feeling of grip on the high register. Good for players with thicker lips or crooked teeth, and those seeking a really comfy feel to their mouthpiece. Schilke Helleberg II 2XL 32.00mm open Same as 2L but with rounded rim, as above.VB 18 3XL 31.25mm Large barrel Same as 3L but with rounded rim, as above.
